Joe Mahon of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank will provide us with an update on the COVID-19 impact on the Minnesota & surrounding regional economy. In what has been perhaps the most far-reaching obstacle for traditional businesses, this should be an informative presentation.
Presentation overview:
After a brief intro on the Federal Reserve and its role in the economy, Mr. Mahon will discuss the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on business activity in Minnesota and the region and the challenges this has posed for economic forecasting and policymaking, before sharing some indicators of the near-term economic outlook. Joe will pay special attention to manufacturing, consumer spending, labor markets, and if time allows, agriculture
About our speaker:
Joe Mahon is a regional outreach director. Prior to that, he served as a regional economist and as a staff writer and analyst for Bank publications The Region and fedgazette. Mahon’s primary responsibilities involve tracking several sectors of the Ninth District economy—an area that covers Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Montana, and portions of Wisconsin and Michigan—for the Fed. Sectors he follows closely include agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and mining. He holds degrees in economics and journalism from the University of Minnesota
