The IMA Minneapolis chapter was honored in being granted the unique opportunity to take in a tour of the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport!
This stemmed from presentations by the current Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) CFO Tim Simon as well as their former Chief Financial Officer Atif Saeed a few years back. Both of them are top-notch Accounting and Finance masterminds. Our paths first crossed in 2021 with Atif championing through the greatest inflection point in modern air travel. Tim followed it up at the end of 2024 with a message of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport thriving not only having successfully navigated through covid, but continually climbing altitude when it comes to enhancing the traveler experience.
Fast forward to this past week, these two excellent presentations were followed by a Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport tour. CEO Bryan Ryks gave us an overview of significant year-over-year traveler growth as well as capital investments for future expansion at both terminals. We then hopped onto a bus for a tour of the airport itself hosted by VP of Government Affairs Mitch Killian. There is so much more going on at the individual employee level helping the traveler experiences come together. Both of these gentleman do an exceptional job and it was clear how much passion they bring to their roles - something to be admired.
MSP creates ~100k of jobs for the surrounding community. They are truly a city within a city. There are multiple fire departments capable of responding within three minutes to any point across the entire complex. Having to deal with all four seasons, it also takes a fleet of machinery and people to keep travelers flying the skies. Somehow despite the brevity of Minnesota winters, the whole leadership team and operations at the airport have led the entire nation. We were given the chance to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their operations.
