Unfortunate News - Boz Bostrom Passed Away

It is with a heavy heart finding out that Boz Bostrom passed away on Thursday, October 9th.  This followed a recent health struggle, of which he publicly shared.  Boz was a larger-than-life advocate for our profession, his students and was an all-around great guy.  You might recognize his trademark "Accounting" shirt and smile.

Whether hanging out or wearing a suit, his Accounting Superman cape was center stage or just under the surface.  Boz lived and breathed his passion for Accounting/Finance with a deep caring for those who were lucky enough to know him.  He inspired students just being introduced to the fundamentals all the way up to professionals achieving their respective pinnacles.

Boz also shared a message of personal triumph.  Overcoming one of the many vices that life can tempt us with.  He became ten years alcohol-free by dedicating himself to his loved ones and all that mattered most (that is 3,652 consecutive days and counting).

This is a man of exceptional character.  Boz will be missed.  His legacy lives on.

CSB and SJU mourn the loss of Warren ‘Boz’ Bostrom

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University communities mourn the loss of one of their biggest boosters.

Warren ‘Boz’ Bostrom – a professor of accounting and finance – has passed away after battling illness.

The 1995 SJU graduate was a lineman on the Johnnie football team who earned Academic All-American honors during his senior season in 1994. He then spent nine years in Big 4 accounting, specializing in international tax and finance, before returning to his alma matter to join the faculty in 2004.

He earned tenure in 2011 and was promoted to full professor status in 2020.

During his 21 years as a faculty member, he became a campus icon and one of the most passionate promoters CSB and SJU had. He developed strong bonds with the students he taught, serving not just as a professor – but as a mentor and a friend. And he used his wide social media audience to tirelessly advocate for the two schools.

He was a fixture at campus events throughout the school year, and an especially avid follower of Bennie and Johnnie athletics.

Beyond his work in the classroom, he was an in-demand speaker and the author of three books: “A Legacy Unrivaled,” chronicling the life of his legendary former head coach and close friend John Gagliardi; “I Believe,” a memoir co-written by SJU icon Bill Sexton; and “The New Start,” a novel about a young auditor navigating an insider trading scandal.

His love of teaching and his students was evident by the way he continued to teach even as he battled health issues in recent weeks.

All of us at CSB and SJU extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Kacey, and the rest of his family.
